Toronto Bridge Park

school: University of Waterloo
type: undergraduate project // public space
location: toronto, canada

Toronto Bridge Park is a proposal for the redevelopment of the Toronto Islands. The project’s primary goal includes the physical connection of the largely uninhabited and under developed islands to the main land and downtown core, while simultaneously maintaining the cherished native island ecosystem and environment. Such a connection would provide direct year round access to the currently disconnected islands.

Program

To increase usability and help preserve the ecosystem, the proposal includes a number of new developments that will replace the current Island airport. The plan includes a large land bridge that will connect the island to the downtown, a new rowing and canoeing course, a new mixed-use island housing development surrounded by canals, an integrated beach front commercial strip, various new sports fields, and a large landscaped sculpture park that includes a large pool and spa retreat.
